Position Summary
Reporting to the Service Manager, our Advanced Technician is responsible for independently diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of powersports vehicles in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment. This role is intended for an experienced technician who consistently delivers exceptional productivity, workmanship, and customer service while supporting the overall success of the Service Department.
Key Responsibilities 1. Diagnostics & Repair
- Independently diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, fuel injection, and electronic system concerns across a variety of powersports vehicles.
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance in accordance with OEM specifications and dealership standards.
- Utilize OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, and specialized equipment to accurately identify root causes.
- Complete advanced repairs with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
- Stay current on manufacturer updates, repair procedures, and emerging vehicle technologies.
2. Productivity & Efficiency (Flat Rate Performance)
- Consistently achieve or exceed departmental productivity and flat-rate performance expectations.
- Maximize billed hours through efficient workflow management and effective time utilization.
- Deliver accurate, first-time repairs while minimizing comebacks and rework.
- Prioritize workload to support timely customer turnaround and overall shop performance.
3. Service Department Collaboration
- Communicate diagnostic findings and repair recommendations with Service Advisors.
- Coordinate with the Parts Department to ensure timely availability of required components.
- Complete accurate repair documentation, labor entries, and work order notes within the dealership management system.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced technicians as needed.
4. Quality & Safety Standards
- Ensure all repairs meet OEM specifications and dealership quality standards.
- Perform final inspections and operational testing prior to releasing completed units.
- Follow all dealership safety policies and maintain accountability for the quality of completed work.
5. Tools, Equipment & Workspace
- Maintain personal tools required for the position.
- Operate shop equipment safely and report maintenance concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
6. Documentation & Systems
- Accurately record labor, parts usage, diagnostic findings, and repair recommendations.
- Utilize dealership management systems and manufacturer resources to support repair accuracy and workflow.
- Complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
7. Continuous Improvement
- Maintain OEM certifications and participate in manufacturer training programs.
- Expand technical knowledge through ongoing professional development.
- Identify opportunities to improve shop efficiency, repair quality, and service processes.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of powersports, motorcycle, automotive, or small engine repair experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Proven history of strong flat-rate productivity and high-quality workmanship.
- Experience using OEM diagnostic software and specialized service equipment.
- OEM certifications (BRP, Honda, Polaris, Yamaha, Suzuki, or similar) are strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
